Consulting

Technology, cloud and product advice from people who build and run systems: architecture reviews, DevOps, due diligence and interim leadership.

What it is

Consulting at Scaledex is the advisory side of what we do every day. We review architectures and codebases, design and fix cloud infrastructure, assess technology for investors, and step in as interim technical leadership when a company needs it for a defined period.

Our background is in building and running systems: Kubernetes and containers, Terraform and Ansible, CI/CD with Jenkins and GitHub Actions, event streaming with Kafka, search with Elasticsearch, payments with Stripe, across AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, Cloudflare and DigitalOcean. The advice comes from operating these things, not from reading about them.

What you get

  • Architecture and code reviews with prioritised, practical recommendations and a rough effort for each.
  • Cloud and DevOps work: infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, observability, and cost and reliability reviews.
  • Technical due diligence for investors and acquirers, delivered as a written report with risks rated.
  • A fractional CTO or technical lead for a fixed term, with a clear handover at the end.
  • Vendor and platform selection with a written recommendation you can show your board.
  • Engineering process and team setup: hiring plans, onboarding, code review and release practice.

How we work

We start by framing the question. What decision are you trying to make, who is making it, and by when? A review that does not lead to a decision is a report nobody reads.

Then we look at the evidence: the code, the infrastructure, the metrics, the incident history and the people. We interview the engineers who run the system, because they usually know where the problems are and have not been asked.

The output is written. Options, trade-offs, a recommendation and the reasons for it, in language a non-technical stakeholder can follow, with an appendix for the engineers. If you want us to implement what we recommended, we can, but the report stands on its own.

Who it is for

  • Founders without a technical co-founder who need someone to own technical decisions for a while.
  • Investors and acquirers who need an independent view of a company’s technology.
  • Engineering teams facing a migration, a scaling problem or a cloud bill that no longer makes sense.
  • Companies choosing a platform or a vendor and wanting the choice made on evidence.

If the outcome of the consulting is a build, our web development and mobile development teams pick it up with the context already in hand.

Process

How it runs

  1. Frame the question

What decision are you trying to make, who is making it, and by when?

  2. Look at the evidence

Code, infrastructure, metrics, incident history and interviews with the people who run the system.

  3. Recommend

A written report with options, trade-offs and a clear recommendation.

  4. Help execute

Hands-on support if you want us to implement what we recommended.
